I am originally from East Texas and have played Pine Dunes numerous times over the years. My most recent round was May 2019. Pluses: Incredible layout with a wonderful mix of holes. Except for 11/13 and 14/15, each hole is framed by trees and feels secluded. This course is easily the best in East Texas from a design standpoint. A must play if you are able. Minuses: Course conditions can be spotty depending on when you go. Usually by the start of the summer, the grasses have come out and filled in. My last round, the tee boxes had yet to fully fill in, and the greens were still coming back from aerification. From good to great: This place has an incredible amount of potential. It could be the Pine Valley of Texas, it just needs targeted investment and marketing. I saw where they are building new condos. From a golf course standpoint, the bunkers need some renovating and there should be a concerted effort to clear out small yearling underbrush and scrub from around trees and the area of play (and possibly put down pine straw). This would go a long way in approving playability for all.

this course drains better than any I've ever played. Two years in a row we got hit with heavy rainfall and still got to play Friday/Saturday/Sunday. The layout is awesome, staff very friendly, and being able to pull off the 18 green and go right to your condo is the perfect setup.

Very solid layout on one of the best, most forgettable courses I've played. There was nothing memorable about the course. If it's the best public course in TX as many claim, it makes me sad for Texas golf. I did enjoy it, but it was nothing special.
