Great Resort State Park! The only one of its kind in South Carolina! The Savanah River is beautiful and a nice swimming spot down the bottom of the hill. With clay on the riverside and bottom the water takes its color on the shore. Lovely area to boat and play. There is a park for the kids to play and a pool to keep every type of swimmer happy! Great food prepared and a wonderful overnight stay in the rooms. Our family had an overall great time for the couple nights we stayed.

I made reservations before reading reviews. I don't regret it, but I see why there are complaints. Our lake front camping spot was beautiful, but the bathrooms in the camping area really need help. 2 showers but only one is working, the other has a huge hole in the ground. And working is not a great description. The water randomly turns off. The bathroom could really use sweeping too. As for the camping spots, I ran into the same problem others mentioned and got stuck trying to leave. It does seem like the park is more concerned about the resort and golfing than the campgrounds.

Terry and Arthur, the camp hosts were very helpful and friendly--two of the nicest people we've ever met in all our travels! The campground is beautiful--very clean and well-kept. We enjoyed the golf course and the restaurant. They just opened the pool but we didn't have a chance to use it, but it looked very good.

We stayed in a very pleasant and roomy cabin with decent size kitchen, picnic area outside. There is an on-site restaurant for pick up orders. There is boating and fishing here. Mountain bikers would love the trails. We like hiking-- it was tricky to hike there because there were a lot of trees down and the trails are not well marked. Hickory Knob is 4 miles from Baker Creek State Park. Both are fairly close to the town of McCormick.

We camped here for 2 days. Beautiful, spacious site lakeside. No bugs, which was surprising for mid May. Also did some archery, played 2 rounds of golf, and mountain biked both of their trails. There's a restaurant on site as well serving 3 meals a day. Only knock would be that their tennis courts have no nets and has weeds growing through the concrete. Despite that, well worth the value! Has skeet also. Must make reservations for it and archery as well. One of my favorite state parks in South Carolina.

The newly renovated suite was exactly what we were looking for in a getaway! It was comfortable, homey, and provided the perfect space for a relaxing weekend on the lake. The back porch has nice views, while still maintaining privacy. We had the choice of the restaurant, or cooking for ourselves. The staff is friendly and helpful. We are already planning our next trip!

If they had another star I would have given it to Hickory Knob State Park!! This place was absolutely amazing! The staff was amazing as well from the front desk to housekeeping!! We stayed in the barracks and accommodating ain't the word for this magnificent building we called home for three nights and four days! Big enough for everybody in my family (4 adults 6 kids) and some!! We had a bunch of fun!! No pictures are available online and I can see why! Pay the cost! It's worth every dollar! Go see for yourself!! You or yours want be disappointed!!

We are very disappointed with the camping portion of this state park, honestly they should just shutdown the camper side and just run the resort side, basically they do no maintenance or beautification to the camping side and the roads say it all. No potholes on the way to golfing, but get ready to replace you suspension and you may need a tow truck to get out of the campgrounds if it rains. We will never stay here again. Its a shame.

The course was in great shape for this time of year. The staff was great! I hadn't played there for some time and the starter have me some tips on how to play all the holes. Where to hit and how long. I'll definitely be back!

Resort area is very nice... Lodge, restaurant, store, cabins, pool and playground. Staff are very nice. Campground is more on the rustic side. READ NOT FOR GLAMPERS. ;) Many sites have been discontinued for use with electricity and water capped off. Maintenance issues are needed. Several trees need to be cut down before they fall down. Plant overgrowth was surprising. We had a problem with ants all week and mosquitoes at night. Only the road into the campground is paved. The roads to the waterfront sites are rough dirt/gravel as are the sites. Very few sites are level. Most are not suitable for large RVs. Host was on vacation while we were there. Lake was beautiful. Lots of deer running around and seen a fox near the golf course. Staff was exceptional at check in.

Gross. Not a nice energy, everything is dark and dismal. The front desk attendant was very nice though. The 2.5 mile trail had a huge section with so much trash that it depressed me. We did, however see armadillos and deer but other than that we were very dissapointed with it. The campground is a safety hazard. We were booked to camp there at Easter and are going to cancel.

I only did 4 stars because the campground is so far from the other amenities at the park. Also I never saw a ranger drive threw the campground and the roads were washing away from all the rain. Food was good at the restaurant, the park staff were all excellent. Trees fell and crossed the roads at two different spots and times while I was there (heavy rain after a drought) and they were on it so quickly, we also seen a ranger stand with an infant deer for an hour waiting for dnr to pick it up and then came and informed us at the restaurant that the dear was expected to be fine. Very friendly, everyone. Our family had a great time and will definitely be back.

As far as golf, this is definitely the place to be, very well kept, the golf course is beautiful, the rolling hills, you think you are in the mountain foot hills. BEAUTIFUL, and then some! BTW. Don't forget to check out the resturant, they are very good and the food is exceptionally good, they definitely go the extra mile to please there customers, and it is so clean, and while you are at it, check our the nice pool, And if you like playing Goff on hills you are at the right place, you get beauty and excercise all at the same time, check this place out, hope this helps.

The campground is good for fishing. There are a few a couple of boat dock good for fishing off of. The lake has a lot of boat activity also. There are cabins and motel room available for those that don't want to camp. They have a restaurant, playground, lounge and pool. The best reason to visit the campsite would be for fishing though. The camp sites next to the lake have really good probably and allow access right to the lake. The sites in the main road get a lot of traffic and are thus noisier. Not all sites are very level and could take some work to level a trailer, and they don't have a gravel pad for tents. Sometime had broken bottles in the site we were at. I wish the sites were cleaner but the bathrooms weren't bad.

This is a wonderful park for outdoor fun including boating, fishing, roaring camp fires and more. This mornings sunrise was amazing. There is definitely a chill in the air but the temperature is rising and my group is set for another amazing day of enjoyment of nature

Great trails, nice facility, but trail entrances are not marked well and the entrances have no where to park you have to park at office or near by and walk to the trail heads.

I go hiking here at least 5 times a month. This place is great. Employees are nice and helpful. I would love to work here part time. It is a great place to go with family and friends. It is a great place to hiking, picnic, or just hang out all day and take pictures to post on Instagram like I do sometimes.

Went for an outdoor retreat and loved it! Great scenery and awesome sunsets! Great facilities for meetings and an onsite restaurant. One bathhouse is being rebuilt but otherwise the campsites are nice. Close but separate enough for privacy.

Place is pretty relaxing. Rv camp sites need some better roads and flatter pads to park on.

Along the rolling, wooded shoreline of the 71,000-acre Strom Thurmond Reservoir, sits Hickory Knob, a full-service, lakeside South Carolina golf resort and remote state park all rolled into one.Tucked away in a serene, remote location, the parks many amenities and recreational opportunities are a pleasant surprise for many. The area is nice. Just across the Savanna River is GA. Food is delicious and quick. The road coming down to the campground area needs some work. But overall, it is a great place to disconnect.

One of if not the best state park camping experiences we have ever had hands down! The sites were well spaced and most were lakefront. Our site was the best ofof the best though. I think it was site 13. It was huge and had the best acess to a rocky shore on the beach. Good shade too. Enjoyed watching the herons and other lake creatures play!

Make sure you see the camp site you are reserving. Ours is unfinished compaired to others in the camp ground. Unlevel and muddy. We spread pine needles to combat the mud. You will track mud in the camper. Very slippery, we've already had people falling. Otherwise very peaceful camp ground.

Wont let you have a birthday party at the pool. Wanted to bring my family of 6 (4 kids under the age of 9) just to swim at the pool and have cake for my 2 year olds birthday. I even offered to pay for a night of camping, but was told, No. I even took it a step further and said, So if I pay for a night of camping and stay over night, then can we have a party? Answer- no. WHAT?????

It was a nice park. The cabins were very nice and we were able to get accommodations near each other. Each morning we would meet in the restaurant for breakfast and could plan some group activities within the park for the day. There were 85 of us in and throughout the week.

One of my favorite parks! This is the place to enjoy peace and quiet in the great outdoors. Cabins or a lodge to rent, fishing, boating, walking trails and golf. The perfect place for a simple getaway to get more acquainted with nature.
