Recent reviews seem strange. Staff was friendly and nice but, the course was all tore up. There was at least two mini bunkers in the middle of greens. I've never seen anything like that. Lots of tire tracks on fairways and tee boxes. Most tea boxes were dirt or clusters of grass.

I played there about a year or two ago and told myself I wouldn't go back because the course was in horrible condition. I heard there was new ownership and needed a last minute tee time, so figured I'd try again. I immediately noticed the clubhouse renovations which looked nice. The new owners were friendly. However, the practice putting/chipping area was in bad shape, so I was not initially encouraged. The first green and tee box was in poor shape which was also discouraging. Carts were nice and fast. The back 9 was in better shape, but I felt the cost was too high for the current condition. It looked like they were working on it, so maybe it will be improved for next year. The course is very hilly with nice views. Very challenging and it helps to know the course well because club selection off the tee is important. Definitely not walkable. Easy to lose balls or have blocked shots. If the course heals up, it could be really nice particularly for the lower handicap golfers.

Very nice, well kept course. Also, very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!

Ive played the course over the past 6 years or so ..... its close price is good and challenging. The new ow era have definitely made significant improvements to the quality of the course to the clubhouse. Theres still work to do but in the right track. Id suggest discarding the reviews that are over 1 year old and give it another chance

You can tell the new ownership has put effort into reviving this course. I give them kudos for that! The back nine is in much better condition than the front nine, and hole 16 in particular was probably in the best shape from tee box to green. With that said, however, the price point is way to high for a course that is in the process of improving. The course is not expensive, but River Downs is far from the finish line at this point, and there are other courses around that are the similarly priced, and in much much much better shape. (Links at Gettysburg, Challedon, and less expensive Westminster National)Again props to the new owners on their clear effort at improving the property, but I will not be returning until either the prices are lowered, or the course grows to meet the standards of similar priced courses in the area.
